Membership Structure

The Ann Arbor Area Chamber of Commerce is going through a lot of changes in the next year. One of which will be changing the way we work with our members.

For the past year, the staff and Board have analyzed the needs of our current members and the reasons businesses do not belong to the Chamber. We also studied how similar Chambers across the country approached their relationship with their members. The result of this research is a new Membership Structure that clearly aligns the value of Chamber membership with each member’s annual investment. The new structure focuses on increasing member’s revenue, promoting employee retention, advocating for business in government and saving money.

New members are signing up under the new structure right now. Members of the Ann Arbor Chamber renewing their membership as of October 1, will be transferred to the new structure at that time.

We want to make sure that the level of involvement* members choose will be appropriate for your companies needs. In order to ensure your company will get the best return on investment from your Chamber membership, please contact Cheryl O’Brien, Membership Director, at 734.214.0107 or you can also email her at cheryl@annarborchamber.org.

Our membership levels are divided into 6 different business types:

  • Sole Proprietors or single individuals fall into the Individual level of membership
  • Small businesses with 25 or fewer employees fall into the Business level of membership
  • Small to midsize businesses with 100 or fewer employees fall into the Corporate level of membership
  • Midsize to large businesses with 250 or fewer employees fall into the Executive level of membership
  • Large businesses with 300 or fewer employees fall into the President's Circle level of membership
  • Large corporations with over 300 employees fall into the Chairperson's Circle level of membership

We have created these membership buckets through research on what businesses need at each business stage. The philosophy behind this method is that a large corporation will not benefit from joining at a lower membership level than the Chairperson's Circle since the benefits are not inline with what the business model for the company needs, but small business can always benefit from higher levels and more exposure for their business. If you need further clarification regarding our levels of membership, please see the links below or contact Cheryl O'Brien at cheryl@annarborchamber.org.
