LOCAL JOB OPPORTUNITIES IN THE TECHNICAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT FIELD:

This position will be the product and process champion for managing content in a major new online search application. The individual will be responsible for creating a comprehensive metadata strategy which will include acquisition, quality handling and enhancement (e.g. normalization, entity extraction, taxonomy mapping, etc.). The position will play a significant role in designing and developing a new line of products and services as well as related administrative applications.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Research customer and end-user needs and identify related opportunities
• Envision, design, articulate and oversee development of methods for managing content and metadata (from a variety of sources and in disparate formats) in order to enable optimal search, recall, refinement and navigation
• Create detailed use cases, design requirements, and marketing requirements from a content and functionality perspective
• Participate in product development team throughout development and consult closely with software development staff to convey requirements, understand and work within technical constraints, and optimize the effectiveness of design implementations
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors and partners to ensure product performance for mutual customers where interoperability is required
• Develop hands-on, in-depth knowledge of competitive products and maintain technical analysis of competitive strengths and weaknesses
• Monitor user feedback as well as market and technology trends to continually identify opportunities for improvement
QUALIFICATIONS:
• 3+ years experience in content management, working with online publishing of content or as a metadata librarian
• Knowledge of public and academic libraries or a degree in library or information science
• Familiarity with web applications, search technologies and the software development process
• Experience working with metadata structures (XML, MARC, DC, METS, etc.) and some familiarity with data mining/entity extraction technology
• Knowledge of library information retrieval systems
• Ability to work in a start-up environment with a skeleton staff initially and very ambitious goals
Must be self-motivated, able to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking cross-functional team environment while maintaining excellent working relationships with people in a wide variety of functional areas
• Awareness of library standards (e.g. FRBR, AACR2, OAI, OpenURL, DOI, etc), information industry organizations (e.g. NISO, CrossRef, DAOJ, etc), and also a basic appreciation for ILS, OPAC and courseware applications is preferred
• High level of interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills as well as basic technical writing skills
• Bachelors degree required, masters degree in library or information science highly desirable
• Ability to travel 15%

SUMMARY:
Consults and provides hardware or software support solutions to internal and external customers under the direction of the departmental Supervisor or ETS Team Lead. The T/S Consultant investigates, reports, and documents customer issues and enhancement requests. They maintain and upgrade hardware and software environments within the department. The T/S Consultant is also responsible for assisting with testing hardware or software in conjunction with QA.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Consults and provides technical support solutions to internal and external customers via the telephone, Email, fax or on-site visits, for some or all ProQuest electronic products.
2. Investigates, reports and documents customer issues, enhancement requests. Provides required documentation to management and/or QA as necessary to resolve customer issues.
3. Tests certified products including hardware, software, documentation, installation, etc., ensuring that the product is complete, meets customer's requirements and functions properly. Investigates causes of customer reported defects and provides possible resolutions, documents results (TrackRecord/Quality Management), problems found, and recommendations for enhancements/changes. Works in conjunction with QA.
4. Confers with QA and assists with hardware/software testing as assigned. Provides feedback verbally and in report form of their test results.
5. Keeps current on all new product releases and those introduced through acquisitions. Reviews software requirements and technical specifications. Researches technical issues and coordinates with QA, Development, Sales, and IS. Provides consulting and training services within ProQuest for new hires and customers. This includes providing documentation for internal or external use.
6. Reviews technical specifications, test plans and various technical documents as assigned.
7. Upgrades and maintains hardware/software environments within the department as necessary, i.e. lab hardware/operating systems.
8. Provides on site support for all national tradeshows and smaller 'special requests' shows under the direction of the Tradeshow Coordinator or T/S Analyst. Ensures all equipment is clean, fully functional prior to the opening of a show. This also includes setup/teardown of all hardware. Provides technical assistance during the show for both sales and customers. Product knowledge is essential.
9. Maintains TSWEB intranet site as assigned. Includes; FAQ's, Tech Tips, minutes, product information, i.e. tech/functional specs.
10. May be required to provide after hours beeper coverage 7 days/24 hours a week for ProQuest customers.
11. Other duties as assigned.
Level II criteria:
Level II can provide technical and search support for most ProQuest products at the basic level, plus 2nd level support for other T/S associates.
Required: Associate's Degree or equivalent experience
Field of expertise: Computer Science
Experience Required: 2 years extensive technical experience including 2 years help desk experience.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities/Mental Requirements:
• Working knowledge of WINDOWS and MAC operating systems, and with the general operation of personal computers and basic application software including Word, Excel
• Working knowledge of browsers, i.e. MSIE, Firefox
• In-depth experience with PC hardware and components. Includes software configuration, setup/installation and basic configurations of PC’s for networks
• Some experience with virus protection, firewalls, pop up blockers and proficiency with configuring them
• Some experience in utilizing diagnostic tools for troubleshooting hardware/software problems
• Some network administrative knowledge, including proxy server configurations
• Some experience with TCP/IP protocols and modems
• Good interpersonal and presentation skills
• Ability to write technical documentation and user/training guides
• Demonstrated ability to work well in groups and on complex projects, especially those involving customers
• Ability to resolve problems related to software and hardware operation and failure
• Detail oriented and organized with strong research and problem solving skills
• Must be independent, self motivated, capable of managing multiple complex tasks and quickly adapt to changing priorities

This position is responsible for capturing user needs and defining requirements for the interface, capabilities, features and performance for a major new online search application. The individual will define the user experience for this service which will support students, librarians and faculty members in conducting scholarly research.
This position helps define the product road map, creates concepts and use cases for new services and features to support end-user and library customer needs and meet business objectives. The individual develops detailed requirements, provides direction to a cross-functional technical team, and coordinates with various organization to enable product development through market launch. This position will work closely with software developers, content operations, sales and marketing as well as senior management.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Research customer and end-user needs and identify related opportunities
