Ann Arbor Public Schools-June 2004 Ballot Questions

Official Policy
March 9, 2004

The Ann Arbor Area Chamber of Commerce strongly encourages the Ann Arbor Public Schools to allow voters to vote separately on the various major components of the Comprehensive Facilities Package based on the use of funds.  The high school proposal, if included in the final package, should be a separate vote.  The Chamber also encourages the Ann Arbor Public Schools to spell out clearly what items taxpayers will be asked to pay for and the costs associated with these items.

The Chamber has not yet adopted a position on the proposed Comprehensive Facilities Package.  We have requested detail from the Ann Arbor Public Schools on both the proposed facilities costs and incremental operating costs including benchmarking data and a prioritization of the planned actions.  As soon as that information has been analyzed by the Chamber, we will issue a statement of our recommendations.  Regardless of the Chamber’s final position, however, we believe the School Board should adopt ballot language at its March 10th meeting that ensures the maximum degree of choice for voters.
