The Time Has Come
It is time to stop making excuses and start aggressively cutting the cost of local government services. We have no time to wait for legislative changes at the State level. Let’s get creative about combining administrative functions in education and put the saving into the classrooms. Keep every school board for now, but combine admin staff and functions to cut cost and reduce duplication. Township, city and county governments have started this process, but there is no time left to move slowly. We should support the elected officials and staff who understand the severity of the situation and have the intelligence and courage to make difficult changes, even if it means the elimination of their jobs. A few emails can let government leaders know they have our support to make these changes. We all must act now.
